STUDY REPORT ON THE FISHING SECTOR IN WEST AFRICA
From an economic point of view, the fishing sector contributes significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of most countries, and represents for coastal countries a significant source of foreign exchange earnings, through exports and royalties drawn from fishing agreements, in particular with the European Union.
In the social field, the fishing sector occupies an essential place in the food security of populations, in particular in meeting the animal protein needs of populations, the vast majority of which have low incomes. It also offers many popular jobs in a context of unemployment.
